Mr. A. A. Corrigan, late manager of the J). I.C, Wellington, leaves for London by the Taiuui ou Thursday next. Hi-. Daviil Johnston, formerly Collector of Customs at Wellington, died hero yesterday morning, at tne age of 70 years. I'nu deceased was born in Wellington on Ilia site now occupied by Te Aro Houro in 1812, his father using one of the earliest Government officials, being stationed at .l'aluuitaiiiii as Collector of (.Wains, when I'oririia Harbour was a good deal used by tiiu whalers and trading schooners of those remote days. Mr. David Johnston entered the Civil Service as a youth, joining the Customs .service at "Oreyinouth. He remained in that Department up till about four years ago, having acted as Collector at Gishorne, Invercai-fill, and Wellington, l-'ar the pasc Una: \«u\s jie resided at Uclmoiit. Jlr. Johnston has leit ii widow and a family of four sous and throe daughters. The sons are Mr. D. H. Johnston (farmer, Wainui-o-nntn), Jlr. Herbert Johnston (Gear Meat Company's stud', IMone), Sir. Uric Johnston (Messrs. Dram! unci Johnston, auctioneers; Wellington), and Mr. - Wallace Johnston I.Messrs. W. Cable and Co., Kniwamu. The daughters aro Mrs. F. \Y. Skcc-t (Belmont), Mrs. J. Dunlop (lnveroargill), and Mrs. K. ]). H. Robinson (Gisborne). The deceased gentleman belonged to the Masonic Order, and was also a wellknown bowler.

The death occurred yesterday morning of Mr. Kilwaril Beeves, one of Wellington's pioneer merchants, at his residence, "Hiawatha," Derwent Street, Island Bay. Mr. beeves was one of the earliest settlers on the West Coast. Subsequently he came to Wellington, and for a time acted as wharfinger on the Queen's Wharf. He then became a partner in the firm of Tiirnbiill and Reeves, and later of Plimmer, Reeves, and Co., who earned on a business as general merchants and .shipping agents for many years on Customhouse Quay, on or near the site now occupied by tho Bank of Australasia. For the purpose of their business the firm had a private wharf, which was for many years known to early Wellington as Plimmer's Wharf. Subsequently Mr. John A. Plimmer dropped out of tho. business, and Mr. Reeves continued to carry it on, afterwards in Willis Street, where the Singer Sewing Machine Company's premises now stand. After retiring from business Mr. Reeves went to England, and remained there and on the Continent for several years. Some throe years ago he returned to Wellington, and has since resided nt Island Bay. The deceased gentleman, who was 72 years of age, was a man of literary culture, and wrote two interesting books on early life in the colonies, "Brown Men nnd Women"' and "Homeward Hound." For mnny years Mr. Reeves resided in Austin Street,' and was a member of St. Mark's congregation. He leaves three sons, Messrs. C. F., AV. 8., and D. Reeves, and four daughters, Mcsdames A. H. Hamcrton and M'Dowal). and Misses M. E. and C. L. Keeves. To be buried to-dny, 2 p.m., 16 February.

The appointment of Mr. James Hislop as Under-Secretary to the Department of Internal Affairs is gazetted.

Mr. .F. D. Avery is gazetted Registrar of Electors and Reluming Officer for Wellington North and Returning Officer for the Wellington Licensing District, vice Mr. A. H. Holmes.
