There wae no sounding of trumpets or booming of- guns when the Union Company's new steamer Maunganui arrived at Wellington from Sydney on her maiden trip shortly before -noon yesterday. The usual crowd of peo-ple. which is always present when the Sydney boat arrives, was lioivever, thcro to welcome her, but it. was, if anything, a sisaller crowd than usual.
