INFORMER'S STRANGE STORY.

Verru stated that ho joined the British Espionage Bureau in 1908 at tho request of tho director of the brewery which Verru represented on the Continent. The War Office, he alleged, paid him .£250 annually.

When the brewery discharged Verru in 1910 ho joined the German counter-espion-ago service, continuing his relations with tho British bureau.

Mr. Stewart introduced himself as from the War Office. lie was disguised, anil called himself Martin. He stated that ho intended to go to Germany as a traveller for patent bottle-stoppers.

Verru states that ho accordingly felt it his duty to guard Germany against systematic British espionage. Germany, moreover, paid for his services better than England did. A swarm of English detectives, he alleges, has followed him since August, trying to kidnap him in an automobile.
