Jf'Nalj were appointed to represent the chamber on the deputation (comprising members of the Borough Unmet,, Kairanga County Council, Auctioneers Association, A. and I'. Association, and the Chamber of Commerce) to wait on the Minister for Railwavs as soon as Parliament meets, to impress on him the urgent necessity of erecting a new railway station at Palmerston. The chairman reported that Mr. Hodder and himself had waited on the staiiomuaster, who liilormcd them that arrangements were now being made to sell tickets at two windows on holidays. He also promised to do what lie could to meet the desires of the chamber on the matter ot forwarding goods to small stations with more expedition. A good deal of discussion look place on the question of establishing a motor 'bus service between Palmerston and Rongolca, and it was eventually resolved to call a meeting of tho business people of Palmerston, to ascertain what support would be given the movement.

Tim Swimming Club got off the finals m tho 220 yds. handicap last night, tho winner being P. Stevens, who started from the scratch mark. The water was very cold, and made good tinio impossible. A dozen members of the local club propose taking part in the Dannevirko swimming sports on Wednesday. Court Manawatu Foresters held its usual meeting last night, C.R. Bro. A. Levy in the chair. One new member was proposed. A framed diploma and a neckribbon were presented to Bro. Weir, P.C.R., iu recognition of his services to the court.

A smoke concert is to be held at the Men s Social Club next Tuesday evening, the Rev. H. G. Roscher is arranging the programme. The Manawatu Motor Cvcle Club has arranged a run to Waikanac on Sunday next. The Wellington Club will also rendezvous there on the same dav. As the members of the .Wellington Athletic team passed through Palmerston yesterday, on their way to the championship meeting at Auckland, thev were met at the station by several members of the local Amateur Athletic Club, who secured promises from the team to compete 'at tho Palmerston gathering on February
