BRISBANE STRIKE.
RENEWED ANXIETY. "IMPORTANT STRATEGIC MOVE" PROMISED, BIG STREET DEMONSTRATION. By Telcmph-Press Aesociation-Oopyrleht (Rec February 12, 9.30 p.m.) Brisbane, February 12. After a few days, of quiescence, striko matters have become more ominous. To-day n hugo crowd listened to speeches at the Trades Hall. Keferaico was mado to certain bread-carters, wbo had returned in defiance of orders. Mr. Coyne, chairman of the Strike Committee, stated that the men knew how to deal with them. Threatening rumours followed the meeting. A crowd of about ten thousand, prominently displaying red ribbons, swept towards Queen Street. The police hurried out. Extra patrols and mounted police were busy keeping the crowd moving. The sudden infusion of vigour is causing anxious speculation. While the employers are claiming a- victory, the strike leaders declare that they will make a most important strategic move about Wednesday next, which will give them a complete victory before the end of the week. To-day the printing, tailoring, timber, furniture, and baking businesses resumed work. Numerous men from the country are filling vacancies, especially in tie eawmills. A German boat manned with a black crew, arrived, and an attempt was made to work it with non-unionists, but the blacks strnck. SIGNS OF COLLAPSE. THE LBADEII'S APPEAL. Brisbane, February 12. Appearances point to the probability of the striko collapsing. Mr. Coyne, president of the Strike Committee, in addressing a mass meeting, admitted that some of the strikers had broken away from the unions. He earnestly appealed to tho others to remain firm, promising them victory within a week. The announcement was received without enthusiasm. Interest now centres in the compulsory conferences to bo held in Melbourne. RESUMPTION OF SHIPPING. A BUSH OF BUSINESS. (Rec. February 12, 11.40 p.m.) Sydney, February 12. The shipping companies advertise -ailings for Brisbane on Wednesday and Saturday. They are being rushed with bookings of passengers and cargo. EMPLOYERS' INTENTIONS. "A BOMBSHELL TIP THEIR SLEEVE." (Rec. February 13, 0.5 a.m.) Brisbane, February 12. Both parties in connection with the strike are manifesting an increased air of mystery. Tho Employers' Federation mot, and it is stated that they had decided on a certain, action which would . bo kept secret for the present. The mine-owners held a conference, and they also declare that they have a bombshell up their sleeve.
