COMMITTEE MEET, Tho monthly meeting of the. Geueral Committee- of the Mastertou A. and P. Association was held on Saturday. Present: Messrs. 11. Morrison (president), W. .1. Welch. H. J. Dagg, 11. Evans, E. C. Harper, G. E. Allen, Ji. Gray, W. Perry, D Foreman, O. C. Cooper, i). Caselberg, J. H. James, A. D. M'Mask-r, li. Kayner, J. P. Perry, G. C. Siimnicrell, Yv\ Cooper, W. fi. Buick, .1. Strang, and A. J. Percy. The chairman welcomed back Mr. Strung, who recently returned from a visit to the' Old Country. Mr. D. Caselberg, chairman of tho Show Luncheon Committer, moved that the resolution in favour of selling the privilege for afternoon tea bo rescinded. In speaking to the resolution, Mr. Caselberg stated that the luncheon committee had made ample provision for supplying the public with luncheon and nni-niobii tea. Ml. James seconded the resolution which W;'-,- carried unanimously. A letter was rend from Messrs. Dalgety and Co., stilting that the erection of a booth on, the. Associated Auctioneers' ground would b<- considered by the auctioneers.— Received. The.' Carterton Borough Council and Martinborongh Town Board wrote staling that they would accede to the association's request to proclaim February 21 ("People's Day" of the show) a holiday. It was decided to thank the local bodies for their consideration. 'I he Prime .Minister acknowledged the, Teccipt of a complimentary ticket, but expressed regret at inability to be present at- tho show, as Parliament would probably be sifting.—Received. Mr. J. D. Ornickshank acknowledged the action of the association in making him a life member. Mr. J. M. Johus'ton, of Palmerslon North, forwarded a donation of M Is.— Received with thanks. A letter was read from tho Masterton Technical School Managers, inviting memkts to bo present at the annual meetng on, February 21, and to take part in ,ho election of managers.—Several nicmners of the committee were asked if they would consent to nomination on the board, butiall declined the honour. No action was, therefore, taken in the matter
Mr. W.' CV Quinnell, M.R.C.V.S., advised that ho intended commencim; veterinary classes in Masterton, if sufficient inducement offered. He suggested that a class of sixteen pupils be formed, at a fee of Jit 10s. per pupil.—A communication vrns received from the Technical School Managers on the same subject. Several members expressed the opinion that.the matter was one for the Technical School to take up, Mr. Summerell pointing out that the school could claim ;i Government subsidy.—lt was decided to inform Mr. Quinnell that, while tho association could not accept the responsibility of forming classes, it would do all in its .power to secure pupils. . A letter was read from the Dunedin Slock Agents and Wool mid Grain Brokers' Association, asking for the support of the association in protesting against the demand of the Waterside workers for tho provision of paper-lined bags for jnanure. Tho president thought that tho demand of the waterside workers was absurd, and was of opinion Hint tho association should join tho Dunedin Association in protesting. Mr. 0. C. Cooper thought that the matter should be referred to a sub-com-mittee, fie did not sco how they could assist in the matter, however. Tho workers scorned to have all their own way. and it seemed to him that nothing conld be done unless they removed the poll tax from the Chinese. It was decided to inform tho Dunedin Association that the association was in sympathy with, tho protest.
'Tho report of the meeting of the Ground Committee, was read. The chairman reported progress in tho ground arrangements and alterations at Sohvay, overythinjr being well up-to-date. It was resolved to suggest the permanent roofing with iron of tho sixteen pens, to be covered. Mr. .Harper reported upon tho improvements made in tho Produce Hall, under his direction. \ 11: was .suggested that meals be supplied to servants' in charge of stock at Is. (id. per day,or Is. Gd. per meal. NEW MEMBERS. Eighteen new members wero elected, bringing the membership of the association up to 1151). The report of the meeting of the Finance Committee was. read and approved. .An application was received from tho New Zealand Kennel Club for a subscription of .£'2 2s„ instead of XI Is., on account of the challenge classes being allotted to this association. The .secretary was instructed to write explaining that tlie challenge classes were included at the Kennel Club's request. The treasurer's statement showed receipts for the month amounting to -E771 135., and expenditure -t'72 7s. sd. Tho debit balance at date was .Clint Bs. 7d. Accounts amounting to .£2OO 17s. Bd. were passed for payment.
