At a mass meeting at the Trades Hall, Mr. Coyne, president of the Strike Committee, announced that the Strike Committee hud decided that unless unions in the northern towns desired to remain out, an urgent telegram will bo sent instructing all excepting transport workers to resume. .Air. Coyne, the strike leader, claims that the strike in the. north showed the solidarity of Labour. The strike leaders are optimistic, and scout any idea of a collapse or defeat. They are determined to fight to the bitter end. At Townsville, the shipping clerks are loading the steamer Taiyuan. The lumpers take no exception to them, but state that if free labour is employed there will be trouble. STRIKE LEADERS ACTIVE. SEAMEN BEING CALLED OUT. AMPLE FUNDS COMING IN. Brisbane, February 9. The Strike Committee is displaying increased activity." The trend of the latest proposals is to throw the burden of the fight on the unions concerned in tho main arteries of trade and to gradually resolve a general strike into a sectional strike, involving the seamen, waterside workers, and coal miners. • Unionists returning to work are to contribute to a fund to keep those mentioned on strike lindcfinitely. This is a counter-proposal to extending the trouble throughout Australia. Ample funds are coming forward from the other Stales, and there is every prospect of a prolonged struggle. As vessels arrive tho seamen are being called out. They are considered to be one of the principal factors in the tight. Tho committee hopes, through their agency, to completely paralyse trade. Attitude of Employers. The employers are showing unprecedented firmness regarding whom they reemploy. The "Daily Mail" newspaper 'has decided not to take back the compositors who aro associated with the Trades Hall, and have invited the men to form a separate union. At tho employers' meeting on Wednesday a master butcher stated that the men returned to work on their own volition, but the Strike Committee replied by calling them out again. Now all are out, and a meat famine is threatened. Train and Tram Services. Practically a full tram service is running. Mr. Badger, the manager, states that the only thing to interfere with it nonwill be the exhausting of the coal supplies. • ' " : '..'.■ Inquiries have already been commenced in Japan with a view to importing coal to Brisbane. TRADES HALL DAMAGED. LIGHTNING SHATTERS FLAGPOLE. (Eec. February 10, 0.30 a.m.) Brisbane, February 9. Lightning has shattered the flagpole at the Trades Hall, and damaged the roof. TYPOGRAPHICAL UNION. (Rec. February 9, 11.35 p.m.) Brisbane, February 9. The Typographical Association,- by a large majority, decided to resume work. (liec. February 9, 0.20 a.m.) Later. The report that the Typographical Association has voted for the resumption of work is denied. The men, it is reported, remain on strike. A number of employees in the lithographic branch of the Government Printing Office have asked to be taken back. The request will be granted conditionally on them in future recognising only one authority—their employers. TRAMWAY EMPLOYEES' ASSOCIATION. Melbourne, February 9. A meeting of the Federal Executive of the Tramway Employees' Association will bo held' on Tuesday tr arrange a ballot on tho question of a general strike of tramway employees throughout Australia.
