PETONE TECHNICAL SCHOOL.
. « The initial meeting of the newly-ap-pointed members of the Petune Technical .School iioard was held last night. There were present: The Kev. A. Thomson and Messrs. Oastle, M'Kenzic, J [ope, Newlaud Triicman, London, and M'Ewnn. The Kev. A. Thomson was re-elected chairman, .Mr. Castle secretary, and Mr. Duncan treasurer. The director, Mr. J. Lynsky, reported that as the senior cadets were required to attend drill on Wednesday evenings, this would interfere with the book-keep-ing close to some extent, but arrangineents would bo iiiaclc to alter the class night where possible. [n accepting thf , resignation of Mr. Hopkins, the plumbing instructor, it was unanimously decided on tho motion of th« chairman, to write a letter to Mr. Hopkins, ex pro-sing regret at his departure, and also thanking him for the valuable services rendered in the past. It was resolved to hold a special meeting on Saturday night, at 7 o'clock, for the purpose of considering applications for the post of plumbing instructor. On the motion of the chairman it was resolved to reappoint all lust year's instructors, provided they were willing. In his aitnmi! report the director stilted that steady progress had been made throughout'the school, the pupils generally showing' greater keenness, and enthusiasm in their work. The. progress of the wool-sorting class had l)een most gratifying, and the reports of instructors were very satisfactory. The cookery class had not been attended as it might have be«n, but better results were looked forward to in tlia present, year. The report concluded by thankijig the board and its secretary for tho hearty support accorded the staff. Ifr. Hope desired to know what effect military training would have on tho school. He stated that some parents had buttonholed him, and almost convinced him (Mr. Hope) that he was responsible for the now scheme. The director, in reply, stated that there would be trouble unless pupils could be transferred to another company, so that drill and school would not. clash. Mr; M'Kwan thought that tho question was serious, and would need cnreful attention. The discussion then dropped.
