MASTERTON NOTES.

(From Our Snecial Correspondent.) Masterton, February 2. The takings at the Park fete held in torton on Thursday, amounted to about .£9O. This is a good deal less than had been expected. It will go soino distance, however, towards liquidating the debt on the Coronation Hall. Two interesting m&tchos were played on tho Masterton bowling green on l'hujsday afternoon between teams representing tho Carterton and Masterton Clubs. The Booth Cup match went to Masterton by a substantial rifijority, but the Shield match was won by Carterton on tho last head by ono point. Summer anil winter appear to bo linked together this season. On Thursday morning a frost was experienoed, which cut down tomato plants, and during the day tho thermometer touched 84 degrees in tho shade.

Rabbit inspectors report that there has been a visible diminution in tho pest during tho last few months. Autumn poisoning will shortly bo commenced. A survey is being made of tho ground required for the fish hatcheries. on tlio Trust Lands Trust property in Masterton. A committee of the Acclimatisation Society will probably meet a committee of the Trust, and arrange for laying out tho grounds.

This season there have been sent to Wellington freezing works from tho Wnikarnkft station, oil tho Enst Coast, two thousand lambs, which, after being travelled forty-two miles by road to Carterton, and then being trucked to Wellington, averaged 35|lb. in weight. The following officers have been installed by the Endeavour Lodge, 1.0. G.T. :— C.T., Sis. Mrs. Flanagan; V.T., Bro. Congdon; treasurer, Sis. Mrs. Judd; P.C.T., Bro. Anderson; F.S., Sis. Mrs. Iveson; secretary, Bro. King; guard, Sis. Mrs. Sewell; sentinel, Bro. Shaw. At the Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr. L. G. Rcid, S.M., Thomas Harding was fined ss. and costs for riding a motor cycle through tho main thoroughfare at a dangerous pace. Philip Juno was fined 40s. and costs for keeping liquor for another person within the NoLicense district of Masterton. A chargo against the same defendant of keeping li(|iior for sale was dismissed. Arthur Joliajisen was charged with having ordered liquor to be delivered to a resident of a No-Licens9 district without notifying the vendor that the liquor was to bo delivered to such person. After hearing evidence, tho magistrate dismissed the information. A chargo preferred against A. E. Scrimgeonr of keeping liquor for salo nas dismissed.
