UNLAWFUL SALE OF LIQUOR,
SECOND OFFENCE
Fanny Prior was charged that, on April 23 last, she unlawfully sold liquor to Constable. Atkinson." She had previously been convicted of slv grousplling; in February, 1911. Sub-Inspector .Sheehan prosecuted, and Mr. C. If. Dix appeared for tho aocusotl, who pleaded guilty
It appeared that a quantity of liquor had been seized on accused's premises in Cuba Street, but, before she could bo served with a summons, she disappeared, and it was not until January 21 that she was apprehended at New Plymouth. Mr. Dix pleaded for leniency for his client, who, ho stated, had been in illhealth, and who had suffered severely through being in constant fear of the present prosecution. Tho magistrate considered that, in view of the previous conviction, the lightest penalty which he could impose was a lino of and costs 7s. He allowed the accused 4S hours in which to find tho money. THREATENING BEHAVIOUR. Two young men, named Stephen Hansen and William llundy, pleaded guilty to a charge of.using threatening behaviour in Willis Street, whereby a broach of the peace was occasioned." Hansen, whose right eyo was encased in plaster and swollen to unusual dimensions, was fined 205., and ordered to pay medical fee .£1 Is. and witnesses' expenses ss, Mundy was fined 205., and witnesses' expenses ss. Default in each case was fixed at seven' days' imprisonment. ' ■"• , OTHER CASES. Joseph Fitch, who pleaded guilty to a charge of being intoxicated while ,in charge of a ■ horse and cart in Molesworth . Street, was fined -JOs., with tho alternative of 48 hours' imprisonment. A • prohibition order was issued against him, to take effect for twelve, months. Remands until February 7. were granted in the cases of Ormqnd Henry O'Neill and Norman James Smith, each of whom was charged with helpless drunkenness. William M'l/eod, for drunkenness, was fined 10s., with the alternative of 48 hours' imprisonment. One first-offend-ing inebriate was convicted and discharged. .
