The Government ha 3 taken measures to prevent a bread famine. The soldiery are protecting the gas and electricity plants. Two bomb explosions by the strikers have wrecked tramcars. Shipping on the Tagus is paralysed.

WORK RESUMED. Sydney, January 30. The Newnes strikers have resumed, pending a conference on the matters in dispute. LITHGOW STRIKERS DETERMINED. Sydney, January 30. The leaders of the Lithgow strikers announce that they will not resume work on the terms suggested by the arbitrator until they havo been starved into submission, but that this is unlikely in view of the continued jupport they are receiving.
