— ' ... (From Our SDecial Correspondent.) Masterton, January 29. : There diml in the Masterten Hospital this morning'a well-known of this 'district—Himiona Ilaratiera. Deceased, who was better known as "Simeon," was ■fifty-two years of age. At one time he. was ft champion wrestler and athlete. The cause of death was pneumonia. . A large tungi is to be held at the Hioua pa.. " Mr.' .W. Lenz,- thft-well-known apiarist of this district, has -sent four hundred hites of bees to the Taranaki - district. He has twolvo hundred hives in the Wairarapa. The past season has been rather wet. for honey-gathering. The funeral of the hire Mr. John Morris took plaeo yesterday, and was attended by leading settlers of the district. • Harvesting is in full swing in this 'district. The crops' are .said to be cleaner this year than they have been for somb years past^ Factory butter is being sold in this town at 1?. 3d. per lb., but an early rise in price is anticipated. The local schools resumed this morning, after the summer vacation. Owing to the additions which are being made to the District High School, a portion of the classcs hove been transferred to the buildings on tho old showground. Entries for'the Masterton. show, to- be. held next month,-are-already beginning l to arrive. • ;
~ Mr. lv. O. Smith's-Rowlands property in,this.-district, comprising 1600 acres, has l»en sold to Mr. -Charles Bennett,- of Wharekoa, Hnwke's Bay. ■ About five hundred rams are being trucked from here to-morrow for the Hawke's Bay rarn fair. ■ '
