Mr. and Mri. H. B. Irving. A civic reception is being held by tho Acting-Mayor (Mr. John Smith) this afternoon for Mr. and Mrs. n. 13. Irving. Tho function will tnko placo in the Town Hall, commencing at three o'clock, and as it is not often that tho peoplo of Wellington have'the opportunity of welcoming such distinguished visitors, it is probable that there will be a largo gathering presont. Contributions of linen; jam, books (preferably of fiction), chocolate, and ompty two-pound treacle tins will bo gladly wolcomed bj- Miss Mestayer (Sydney Street), who is busily engaged in getting ready tho "tuck box" to bo sent next month to the Melanesian Islands. Mr. and Mrs. Lionel Abraham and family have returned from a holiday at Paekakariki. , Miss Hooker has returned from a short holiday in Otaki, Mrs. and Miss Monro hare returned from Wellington. Miss Wolff returned to Masterton on Friday from a. visit to, Te. Kuiti and thenorthern districts. Mrs. D. Ca?elberg, who has beon staving at Day's Bay House for the past three weeks, has returned to Masterton. Mrs. Roy and Miss Gladys Pioy (New Plymouth) arrived in Wellington last evening, and aro staying at the Hotel Cecil.!until Friday, when they go on to Oaiptjh'-

Mrs. Leslie Remolds returned to Wellington on Saturday from a visit to Dunedin. Miss Maud Keynolds, who has been the guest of Colonel and Mrs. Whitney in Auckland, is spending soma days with her before returning .to Dunedin.

Mr. and Mrs. Myer Caselberg and their daughters, returned to Masterton yesterday, after spending three weeks at Island Bay.

Mrs. MacShane and her daughter, Mrs. Hume (Auckland), are visiting the Wairaraua, and are'staying with Mrs. MDougall, at Pirinoa.

Nurse Sexton' has" returned to "Wellington from a visit to Eotorua and the surrounding districts.

Miss Munro, who has been spending some weeks in Rotoraa, returned to Masterton last Friday.

Mrs. Burns (Carterton) and her children returned to their. home on Saturday from a visit of some weeks spent in Te Kuiti.

For some time past, writes the Hutt correspondent of Tiif, Dominion, it lias been very evident that St. James's Anglican Churcn is in need of an organ. The cost is more than the residents could subsenbe personally, and so it was decided to orpanise a garden party, tho proceeds to help to provide funds. The garden party is to, be held next Saturday -in the beautiful' 1 gardens of "Fern Grove" (lent by Mrs. Riddiford for the occasion).
