The four cnmpetilors who skilled in the halt-mile amateur l)ic.yi-l(> championship .all tiniled from Wellington. Some excitement was caused, into in the afternoon, when it was announced that J.. M'Kay cleaved the jump that wiis set him by inches, and with groat, ease. Cheers and applause greeted the performance, but they proved lo l>o premature, for when the tape was put over flic bar it was found that the height cleared was only 9ft. "in. .Later. 51'Kay attempted to clear the bar at it height of lift, ■ljin., but came a good deal short of doing it. An entertaining feature in the latter part of the programme was a series of wrestling bouts (Cumberland style), in which four competitors took part. E. M'Donald scored two falls out of three in a throe-bout mutest with T. Walshe, and T. E. Holmes got two falls out of three pitted against A. Curtayne. The last-named pair put up a very fiue exhibition. In the final, Holmes put M'Donald down, twice in succession, somewhat easily. Mr. J. Boyle, who judged the wrestling, stated that the competitors had given a good scientific exhibition of Cumberland wrestling, and added that nothing better had been seen on the Basin Reserve for years. Musical selections were contributed by Jupp's Rand at intervals during the afternoon. Following arc the results of tho events:— Hundred Tards Mniden.—First heat: .T. V. Daley, 1; A. 11. Bale, 2. Lawrence was disqualified on the ground that he had previously competed and won in a hurdle event, and was not entitled to run in a maiden race. Lawrence's time was 11 S-osec. Final: J. F.
