COUNCILLORS AT HOME.
MIRAMAR'S PROGRESS. Miramaj now has n town hall of its own, aud the first meeting of the Borough Council in the new promises was attended last night by several of the ratepayers. During the evening, the Jlavor (Mr. J. Brodie) remarked that this was the first meeting of tilt council at which he had ever seen outsiders present. When the ordinary business of the evening had been transacted, the ratepayers read an address congratulating the llayor and councillors on the acquirement of borough offices within the limits of the borough itself. The address also expressed appreciation of the services of the councillors in the, past, and of the cheerful manner in which they had undertaken the work of the borough, though at a great disadvantage in having to' hold meetings in the city. The erection of the Town Hall was referred to as another distinct mark of progress within the district. In replying, the Mayor said that it was a pleasure to receive such encouragement in the work they bad undertaken. He referred to the progress mado in the past few years in transforming the district from a sheep run to its present up-to-date condition. The borough had a brilliant future before it, and it was pleasing to think that in the many larse works that had yet to be carried out the council had the ratepayers encouraging them. 1 Suitable replies wore made by all the councillors present, who exptessed pleasure at being able to hold council meetings at home. i
