OTAKI NOTES.
Tie test cheques for the month of December to suppliers of the Manakau cheese factory were: JJ2OB 19s. lid., <£146 95., .£63 3s* lid., and ,£6l Is. -Other farmers also received substantial cheques. A lad was captured here on Wednesday by the local constable, the youngster escaping from the Weraroa Industrial School earlier in the day. At the annual meeting of the Methodist Guild tlje Rev. E. B. Blackmore was elected president, Mr. W. J. Row as. vicepresident, llr. Harold Cockrell as organist, Jtr. W. Farmery as lion, secretary and treasurer, and Mr. Fred Dorset as guild steward. The residence occupied by Mr. Daniel N«es, and owned by Mr. T. OHourke, of Otaki, was destroyed by fire last night. The house was a large one, picturesquely situated. Mr. O'l'ourke had an insurance of ,£3OO in the State Office, - while Mr. Nees's insuranco on the furniture was ,£'loo. The origin of the fire is unknown. At a meeting of the Otaki Brass Band Committee last night it was decided to procure several new instruments, a.u advance of £10 being made by one of the officers (Mr. Herna to Ao). It was also resolved to play at the Otaki and Waikanao sports at Easter time, aud at the gymkhana next month.
