Wedding at Newtown. On January 23, at; the Congregational Church, Constable Street, Newtown, Ijy the llev. W. .A. Evans, Miss Lucie Mills, eldest, daughter of Mr. T. Mills (editor of the Eeilding "Star") wits married to Mr. llalph Anker, son of Mr. A. Anker, Wellington. The bride, who was given away by her father, was attired in a gown of white tatfeta silk, with a tunic overdress of hand-worked embroidery, and her veil of beautiful Limerick lace was arranged over a coronet of orange blossoms. The Misses Marjorie, Dorothy, and Ethel Mills (sisters of the bride), and Miss Hilda Haggett, a cousin, attended as bridesmaids, also two. little maids, the Misses Kathleen Hornblow and Nancy Campbell. They were all frocked alike in white embroidered muslin, and carried bouquets of pink Sweet peas. Mr. Ernest Anker, brother of the bridegroom, officiated as best man, and Mr. Cecil Haggett, of Wanganui, was groomsman. The service wits fully choral, Mr., W. A. Evans presiding at the organ. After the ceremony a reception was held at Godber's rooms, Mrs. T. Mills receiving in a costume of wedgwood grey charmeuse cloth, with a black plumed hat,. Mrs. A. Anker, mother of the bridegroom, ivoro black glace silk, and a grey hat. The bride's going-away dress was of seagull grev, braided with black, and a black hat 'finished with white lancer plumes. After the honeymoon Mr.-arid Mrs. Ralph Anker will leave for i'eilding, their future-resi-lience. Miss Bertha Miles will accompany her father and Miss Hilda Miles to England. They leave by the Taiuui next month. . Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Young, of Christchurch, sailed for London by the I'. and 0. steajner Mantua on Saturday. Miss Berry, the retiring matron of 'the Napier Hospital, also left by the same boat, en route to Perth, Australia, where she is taking up an excellent position. Miss Westland and Mr. James AVostland, visitors. from Ceylon, who aro recont arrivals iu Auckland, intend, doing a. holiday tour of the Dominion. Miss Tendell, who has been staying at Muritai for the last fortnight, has just returned to town. Mr. and' Mrs. J. Logan, from Sydney, are making an extensive pleasure tour through New--Zealand, ana are at. present in Auckland. \ Captain J. Kennedy and'llrs. Kennedy, of Auckland, arrived back from their English trip on Friday last. Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Martin have returned from London by the Mantun. Mrs. A. L. Herd ma n and family returned to. town last week. Mrs. W. R. Bridgnian and Miss Hardwick, of Mount Eden, who have been touring England and the Continent for over two years, returned to Auckland la.st week. Madame Melba is enjoying a quiet holiday a.t "Coombe Cottage," her hou~e in Coldstream, Victoria. The Messrs. AVigram, and Miss J. M. Wigram, of Christcburch, who have been travelling in Europe, returned to New Zealand by the Mantua last week. Colonel and Mrs. It. -T. Collins are spending a fow days in Auckland. The Hospital Board yesterday received with regret the resignations of Nurses U. Lambert, and M. M. Jackson. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Payne, of Toorak, Melbourne, are holiday-making in the Dominion; also Archbishop Wright and Mrs. Wright, from New South Wales. The latter are at present visiting the, Cold Lakes, and intend later going through to Kotorua. . Miss Bates and Miss Dixon have just returned from Levin, where t.hcy have been the guests of Mrs. Leader. At the Terrace Congregational Church on* Jamiarv 20, Miss May 'Miller, second daughter of the late Kev. H. Miller, of Napier, was married to .Mr. L. V Coinerford, of Christchurcli. The bride was given away bv the Hon. George I'owlds, and Mr. H. Miller acted as best man. I he coremony was performed by the Eev. J. Itec-d Cdasson. The engagement is announced of Miss Ivy Hill, of Kellnirne -House, Oriental Bay, to Mi'- George Guise, second son of Mr. C. 11. Guise, of Wallace Street. The Misses Handyside were passengers for the south last evening by tho Mararoa. Dr. and Mrs. M'llniith, of Canterbury, passed through Wellington, on Monday, en. route to Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. .1. I\. Edie, of Martinborough, who liavo been spending the holidays at Dimedin, arrived from the south Sunday, and are the guests of Mrs. Picot. Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Hctherington. of Thames, returned tn Auckland from London on Monday by the Victoria. Mr. and Sirs. Bryan Lysaght, of Manutahi, left last week on a trip to Japan and India.
