'I. r.'.irk'.nd, acting 011 behalf of the lorry steamer employees, who are aliilialfd with the Now' Zealand Federation of Labour, for a conferenee as to tho nion's wages and conditions ol' employment. it will be remembered Hint demands were made by the men for increases which would involve, the directors said, an extra expenditure of .tIOII annually. The directors rejected the demands, and also a proposal for a conference witli the men concerning them, but thoy offered to assist tli" 1 men in having their ease brought before the Arbitration v Court. This the Federation of Labour would not entertain, and the directors have now agreed to meet the men's representatives to-night in conference.
