THE COASTWISE LIGHTS.
• —V MR. MILLAR AND THE THREE KINGS. I — (Br relejrap'u— rre=s Association.) Auckland. January 22. The utterances of the Minister for Marine (the Hon. J. A. Millar) at Rotorua a few days ago in regard to his determination against complying with the sugges- ' tion of master mariners as to the light " at the Three Kings have apparently 1 aroused considerable feeling among master " mariners now in port. A meeting was ' held this afternoon, when there were pre- \ sent twelve captains, mostly of ocean-going ' vessels. Captain Entwistlo, of the Victoria, presided. Captain Ross explained what ho had done in forwarding matters connected with the petition for additional lighting facilities. The ready way in which the petition had been signed, showed that there was a feeling of unanimity among ocean- { going masters. lie read the petition which had been drawn ill) for presenta- " tion to the House of Representatives, ' pointing out that the sea-borne traffic of " the northern part of the Dominion was ' increasing to such an extent as to show " that the coast northward of Auckland was " not sufficiently lighted for the safety of ! lives and property entrusted to the 'care of the petitioners. They urged .the erection of a first-class light and fog signal on the Three Kings, also of unwatched lights on Flat Rock northward of Kawau Island, on Channel Island, the south entrance to the Hauraki Gulf, and a light and fog signal oil the North Cape, 'i'lie petition as drawn up was adopted.
