LOCAL AND GENERAL.

The Postal Department has been advised that the Mceraki, with an Australian mail on board, left Sydney at noon on Saturday last, and is due to arrive in Wellington on Wednesday morning. Rather a largo list of persons wero charged with insobriety at the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning. The total was thirteen, of whom two were women. Eight of tlic number were entered as first offenders. Shortly after 5 o'clock last evening the Fire Brigade received a call to Tory Street. The outbreak was located in a shed at the rear of a grocer's shop (No. 155), kept by Mr. T. M'Cord. The fire was confined to the shed, which was used for storing bulk material and odds and ends. The damage was confined to the contents.
