j NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. ~ <By Telegraph—Press Association.) 1 Christchurch, January 22. 5 A meeting of tbo"Canterbury Croquet , Association was held on Saturday, -when 5 the questions of the New Zealand chamf pionships and of the interprovincial and - inter-island matches were considered, and - the following resolutions were arrived at: j "(1) That in the. opinion of' this asso- - eiation the time has como. when steps i should be taken to arrange for-a .New , Zealand championship by way of singles s to include both sexes, and to provide s for the control of tho ladies' champion- > ships of New Zealand and the doubles • championship, and also of interprovincial - and inter-Island and Dominion matches, ; whenever these shall be deemed practic- > able aud desirable, and this association j considers that nouo of these events ought ; to be held or recognised unless authorised , by a duly constituted association reprc- [ scntative of (he Dominion as a whole i "(2) That in order to give practical | effect to the above resolution, the president be requested to prepare a draft constitution and rules for the New Zealand Croquet Association, and also a draft scheme for tho Neiv Zealand championship competition, and, after 'having submitted the same to tho various croquet clubs and associations in tho Dominion, to convene a meeting of such clubs and associations at which a New. Zealand Croquet Association may bo'formed, the constitution thereof be adopted, and regulations bo passed fo.r a, New Zealand championship singles competition "(3) That this association is of opinion (hat in order to minimise (.ravelling, it is desirable that various' rounds should ba played off, first between representatives of clubs witnin the saine province, next between representatives of adjoining provinces in the same island, and then between the winners of each neighbouring pair of provinces in the same island, and finally between the -winners of the two - islands, and that this final contest should bo played in tho North Island and South Island in turn. I'n'der this, scheme the winner in each province would be known as the champion of the province, Ihc winner of each island would be champion of that island, and th? final winner would be champion of New Zealand." '
