ON THE LYALL BAY BEACH. Tho story of tho thoughtless breaking of a bottlo was told in tho Magistrate's Court yesterday. . A charge of throwing plans on Lyall Bay beach was brought against Harry Potter. Mr. E. M. Beochoy, who appeared for tho City Council, said-that tho prosecution. was tho first of its kind. It simply related to the breaking of a bottlo on Lyall Bay beach. ' It was a dangerous practice—— Dr. A!' Arthur, S.M.: "Very dangerous, indoed!" Mr. Boochnv: "The object of tho prosecution is to bring this uiidor nob'co." His Worship, to defendant: "Well, Mr. Potter, what havo you to say. p I sup.poso you did it thoughtlessly." I Defendant: "I was walking along the Well, and saw tho bottlo staring mo in tho faco—" Dr. M'Arthur: "It m not making faces at you, wns it?" Dofendant: "I picked up a stono, nnd threw it casually at, tho l>ottlo, and it ■happened to break t it. The caretaker came out, and said something about it, and I at once, picked the pieces up, and threw them in a safe placo. I am a resident of Lyall Bay, and one of my objects is to gatlrar up such tilings on the beach." Tho magistrate mnde no penalty by way of fine, but required Potter to pay tho Court coste, 7s.
