"CLEAR OUT TO THE COUNTRY."
MAGISTRATE AND FARMERS' UNION. lEy Teleeriph.—Presi A»s«clatlon,l Blenheim, January 18. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, Horencc, S.M., referred to a letter lie had received from tho secretary of tho Farmers' Union. The letter drew the magistrate's attention to tho fact that iu this poriod of tho year a stipendiary magistrate often orders men brought before liim to clear out to the country. His Worship said ho;was not aware that anything of the sort was done by him. He often told men to go back to work. The letter also requested the magistrate in future to cease the practice,, as there was no police protection iu the country. The magistrate considered this portion of the letter impertinent in telling tho judiciary what they should do. Any complaints should bs addressed- to the Justice Department, not to a magistrate or justice.
