'Trench, one of the two Englishmen who in December, 1910, were sentenced to four years' confinement in a fortress on charges of espionage, apparently attempted to commit suicide by hanging in tho fortress at Glatz. A warder cut him down unhurt. The authorities aro convinced that it was a sham attempt, Trench hoping to be transferred to the hospital, with a view to escaping. ;
