NO SUMMER.

BAD WEATHER IN WELLINGTON. So far we have had no summer to speak of. There have been days which have dawned with conspicuous brightness, but with very few exceptions they have been too bright to last, and the afternoon lias seen the canopy shaded with clouds, accompanied by either gale or rain—or both. Up till the New Year our illfortune was shared by other centres in New Zealand, but since then Wellington weather has been recklessly bad, whilst Auckland has enjoyed a fortuight's beautiful weather, and Christchureh has done very well. The boisterous weather is purely local. On the voyage from Sydney the Moana, which arrived here at 7 a.m. yesterday, experienced bright warm days and calm seas until Terawhiti was reached, when the wind frojn the north-cast became perceptible, strengthening to a gale in the Strait. Yesterday was one of Wellington's "black" days. The wind howled from the nortli-west, raising clouds of dust in every direction. The foot traffic down Thorndon Quay yesterday afternoon was considerable on account of the matinee performance at Wirth's Circus, and owing to the absence of water-carts people had to fight their way with closed eyes along that dustblown thoroughfare, between the Lambton Station and Davis Street. So fierce was the gale that the top of the circus tent had to be kept lowered during both performances. At 5 p.m. came the rain,, and once more pedestrians could open their eves without taking a, risk.
