H.A.C.B. SOCIETY.
The adjourned annial meeting of St. Patrick's Branch, No. jilo. of the H.A.C.B.S. was held in St. ! Patrick's Hall '• on Monday evening, there being a good attendance of members. The meeting was presided over by Bro. W. J. Feciiey, P.P., «nd among those present, were tho Rev. Fathers. C. J. Yeaning and T. Segrief. The officers wli.i Were elected'at the ' previous meeting weri duly installed bv :Bro. Fqenoy./ , ■, . • Important correspondence from the District' Executive relative to tho insurance scheme which was carried at the trier.- ■ liial movable meeting in 1310 was read. The. scale adopted at that meeting lias ' been Slightly; increased by the Government Friendly Societies'. Actuary (j[r. A. "T. Traversi), owing to tho high' mortality ; Irate experienced by. the society during the Inst'quinquennium, aiul the maximum ago for entrants has been reduced from ' 60 years to 55 years.' Tho society' therefore now offers to insure any of its' members i passing a medical examination for the sum of .£SO, in addition to tho sum of <£20 ; now paid as a death benefit; making a total of .£7O. Tho scale of contributions for.this'additional benefit varies according to age from 2s. 'Jd. extra per quarter to lis.'2d. . The schc'mo is purely a voluntary,one, and is there if members wish to avail themselves of it. It does away ■ with the objectionable and much-dis-cussed levy system, whicli has time and again been heartily condemned by the \ actuary. The .district half-yearly meeting of'the : society takes:place at the Hibernian Hali, Auckland, on Wednesday, February 28, , for which delegates to represent Wellington will be clccted at the next meeting. \ This district meeting will ho one. of more ! than '.passing importance to Wellington, as Bro. J. A. Fitzpatrick, P.P., of Hutt, ; who was recently transferred to Auckland! has been nominated for tho position of .district, vice-president, a position' which is also.being.contested by two Aucklandcrs. If Bro. I'itzpatrick's nomination is successful,. he will bo. the first Wellingtonian to occupy a position ou the district 'executive.
