Three cruisers and three transports conveying thrro battalions of infantry and eight machine guns ltavo sailed for Chifu, The Imperialists, after much fighting, reached within .sixty miles of Sianfu. Many towns were looted. At Shcnsi a massacre of ten thousand Manchus took place. The "Times' 1 Peking correspondent states that tho decreo of abdication will establish a republic, and it is hoped that the nation will accept it as legitimately succeeding the monarchy by the Imperial will. It is also hoped that the Republicans will assent to Yuan Shih Kai's presidency. Peking, January 16. Many princes are contributing generously to tho patriotic fund. The princes of Eastern Mongolia met to discuss a proposal for tho declaration of the indepen. dence of Northern Mongolia. (Rec. January 17,1.33 a.m.) Peking, January 16. Whilst returning from the Palace a bomb was thrown at Yuan Shih Kai. He. was not injured, but two policemen were killed and two injured.
