ARTILLERY TRAINING CAMPS. Lieutenant-Colonel G'. N. Johnston, Director of Ordnance at General Headquarters, has arranged the following dates tor tho training camps for the various field batteries throughout Now Zealand:— D Battery (Wellington), F. Battery (Napier), and J. Battery (Palmerstou North), at Oringi, near Dannevirke, February 10-18; A and G Batteries (Auckland district), at Hamilton, March 9-17; Ji Battery (Canterbury), near Ashley, March '23-31; B and C Batteries (Qtago), at Mandoville, February 24-March 3; H Battery, 1 (Nelson), at Nelson, March 23-31, 1 Tho four new 2.05 quick-iiring fountain : guns and equipment for D battery have just been landed in Wellington, but will : not be used for training purposes thu season. During the winter months th« | gunners will be thoroughly grounded in all that pertains to the new guns and | tho science of mountain artillery work. In tho meantime, tho battery will use ' tho old 15-poundexs, which navo done 1 service in tho past. It is expected thai ! there will be 400 gunners in camp at Oringi in February next, the largest field ; artillery camp which has ever been held in the Dominion, and the first to be held ; under the new regime. The Palmerstou Battery, which was an infantry corps not long ago, will,, of course, do preliminary work. Tho sterner business of attack practice with live 6hc116 will be left to 1 the older batteries. The day's work will ; cover six hours' solid work, with evenings off, except for guards. livery endeavour will be put forth to make tbe men's stay in camp as interesting and attractive us possible. The Director of Ordnance is now arranging! tho dates for the Garrison Artillery camps'. It is intended that every camp will bo attended by Colonel Johnston or the Assistant Director of Ordnance (Captain Maidlow). ,
