MIRAMAR POWER-HOUSE.
LOAN OF .£IB,OOO REQUIRED. Although the Wellington City Council has given the Miranifir Borough Council "the cold shoulder" in regard to the latter body's request for r. workable arrangement with the tramcurs in the event of tho borough supplying its own power, the Borough Council has decided to (;o on with tho f-chcme of erecting a power-house and complete plant for the supply of electrical energy for lighting, heat, and power as originally proposnl. It. is stated that even if tho borough is ultimately absorbed by tho city, a branch powerhome, so far away from tho city's powerhouses, must be regarded as a very valuable asset owing to the heavy waste there must l>o 011 such a long stretch, of line. Apart, from the tramways, it is contended that the future of Miramar justifies the erection of a. small power-house, if it is only to supply power for public and private lighting ;\ntl for industrial purposes. A meeting of tho ratepayers lias been called for January 31, when it will 1m asked to sanction a loan ot -£18,000. Only .£10,700 of that amount will l>o for powerhouse and plant (to include a .190 horse.power engine), the remainder to bo carmarked for car building in ca.se tho Wellington City Council should refuse to permit its cat's to travel within the borough.
