WINTER FEEDING.
THE PEOBLEM IN TAKANAKI, The problem of winter feeding is now ono of considerable importance in Tarannki, says the '•'Herald," and settlers are awakening to its urgent necessity. A discussion is taking place as to the respective values of nay and ensilage. The settlers are beginning to realise tho value of co-pperativo effort with regard lo labour problems, now that so much_ difficulty is experienced in securing suitable farm help. On a' recent occasion the labour difficulty was entirely overcomo bv neighbours' co-operating. When one settler was busy making ensilage a neighbour came along, bringing with him his man, and his horse, and with the help of a casual hand the work was quickly done, the compliment being in duo course returned. Thus each man had a fino stack of eii-silago. than which no cow desires anything better. In most eases tho silage is being made in the stack ■ form and simply weighted with earth.
