CROPS IN NORTH CANTERBURY
SATISFYCTOKY YIELD) , . The crops throughout North Canterbury have a very healthy appearance, and should the present weather continue, fays mi exchange, the farmers will have good yields to report. Tho cutting of tho autumn sown crops is now in full Mviuß. and one. farmer on the hunks of the W'aipara estimates his crop of oats which is now iu stack at (10 to 70 bushels. Another fanner in the saino locality has commenced threshing and present returns show a tifly-bushel crop. Throughout tho district one is impressed with thu lino appeamuice of tha spring sown crops, and if appearances count, tho late crops give, every indication of giving t tie best returns. The wheat crops everywhere give promise- of a record return. In one or two instances fanners have put tho binder into operation in green oats, owing to tho presence of the caterpillar; but very little is heard of tho pest this year. In and around Waikari the binder is at; work in half ripe oats, mostly for chaff purposes, d'rass-soed is also being cut. and'of this there is a large acreage, under cover. Generally speaking, the farmers have every indication of a record year.
