1 . FATE OF THE STEAMER TALHRA. By Teleem-oh-Press Association—Gopyriehl (Rec/January 15, 9.10 p.m.) Sydney, January 15. Mr. King, Resident Commissioner at Vila, New Hebrides, has cabled the Navigation Department that' tho steamer Tathra foundered at-sea, and that 21 lives were lost, including Chief Engineer liussell, Chief Steward Wilcox, and a passenger named Ixer, from_ Melbourne. SURVIVORS RESCUED. (Rec. January 15, midnight.) Sydney, January IS. / Messrs. Burns, Philp' and Co. havo received a message stating that the steamer Malaita picked up a lifeboat and thirtyeight survivors of the Tathra, including tie master and officers. No further details are available regarding the missing party or how tho steamer was lost.
