Fancy Dress Parade at Plimmerton. Plimmerton has this summer fully maintained its reputation as ono of the gayest of • seaside , resorts. The guests at "iireuura House," and their friends in camp, or in seaside cottages, have kept up a continual' round 'of merry-making. Competitions, concerts, parlour games, and pipi suppers round roaring honlires have passed tho evenings pleasantly, wni.-e die days have been spent in swimming sports, water polo, pajiar-ehas-es, etc. On Friday evening a fancy dress parade was held. About forty performers paraded, and caused much amusement-to tlie assembled spectators. The company wns afterwards entertained at supper by Miss Vaughau, 'at "Erenora House." The prizes for the "best costumes were von hjf Miss Dora Pope ("Coastguard"), Mr. Stuckcy ("Old .Man of the Sea"), Master llolib'ie Smith ("Chinaman"), and Miss Alice Smith ("Topsy"). Among the other costumes were:—"Tree Fern (Mrs. Jluir), "Flax Bush" (Miss Chalmers), "Father Christinas" (Mrs. F. S. Pope), "i'in Cushion" (Miss Stuekey), "Dinner Tal>le" (Miss Flora Pope), ""Washing Day" (Miss N. Stnckev), "Siamese Twins" (Mr. P. Muir and "Mr. D. Hamilton). Miss Leary, as a nurse, drove a tea:n of twins (Master Jack Pops and Master Jack Young). Gisborne Wedding. At, Holy Trinitv Church, Ciisborne, on January 10, a very pretty wedding was celebrated,, when Miss' i'lva Solvauder, eldest daughter of Mr. F. Solvander, of Gisborne, was. married to Mr. James Agnew, son of Mi'. A. Agnow, X'auitahi. The ceremony was performed by the liov. Dawson Thomas. The bride, who was given away by her father, was attired 111 cream silk taifeta, trimmed with guipure insertion and silk fringe; her court train fell from tho shoulders, and was 1 edged with silk braid and embroidered with true lovers' knots. She also wore the customary veil and orange blossoms. The Misses Freda andllita Solvander, sisters of the bride, wore, ay bridesmaids, pretty frocks of cream silk-and lace, with large hats ol hilk crinoline. Mr. J. A. olnciated as best man. The. bridegrooms present to the bride was a silver-mouuted set of toilet requisites, and to the bridesmaids a pearl and amethyst pendant and gold ring respectively.
Sir Jcseph Ward, accompanied by Lady Ward anil Miss J.iieen, and Master Ward, passed through Featlierston oil Monday. 011 their way to 'laupo, Mr. C. B. Pharazyn is spending a few days in Featherston. Mr. Charles Zachariah and daughter, of Hawera, arc on a few weeks visit to AYellington, and are staying at ihe Perns, Aurora Tcrrace. Mrs. and Miss Corliss returned on, Saturday from Picton, where thoy have been spending the Christmas and ZVcw Year holidays. Mr, H«iry Kembcr and daughter left yesterday for a trip to the Southern Lakes. Mrs. R. Scott, who has been staying with her sister, Mrs. White, of Oriental Bay, has returned to Marton. The engagement is announced of Miss Dorothy Jenkinson, sccond daughter of Mr. G. H. Jeakinsin, of the flepurtment of Agriculture, Wellington, to Mr. C. Liscant Jacobs, second son of Mr. G. J. Jacob?, F.R.A.S., F.R.G.S., of Guildford, Surrey, England. The Nurses' Home of the Napier Hospital was on Friday night the scene of a very enjoyable "social" and dance, tendered by the entire nursing staff of the hospital as a farewell to the retiring matron, Miss K. Berry. Miss Berry left yesterday-for Auckland, en route to Perth, Western Australia. Mr. and Mrs. J. Harold, of Wanganni, who have been doing an extensive tour of England and tho Continent, returned homo last week. Mr. Robert F. Chadwick lias returned to Wellington from the south. Miss Felicia Heaton, of "Ridgeside," Lower llutt, is to be married on February 17 to Mr. A. Evcrs Swindell, of Gloucester, England. The prospective bridesmaids arc the Misses Olive Sniith, Viva Farmer, Mary Williamson, :Norah Natuscli, and Marjorie Scales. Miss Felicia Heaton and Miss Olive Smith are visitiiig Waikanae.
