The death occurred at Pulmorston North on Saturday of Dr. Stockwell, who was for many years a well-known resident of the Southland district, and who came to Palmerston a little over twelve months ago. Tlio late Dr. Stockwell, who was (iii years of age, came to New Zealand in 1ST!), and was the pioneer' medical man in the Lower Mataura Valley, Southland. After serving in the employ of tho Union Company since its inception, Mr. Andrew Tullocii, of Dunedin, resigned recently in order to live in retirement at Westport with his son, Captain Walter Tulloch. His fellow employees iu the repair shops at Port Chalmers presented Mr. Tulloch with several gifts iu token of their esteem and goodwill,- including a gold-mounted fountain pen and a tobacco jar, and the heads of the various departments presented him with a silver-mount-ed walking stick and an umbrella, suitably inscribed. An informal gathering of members of tiie Waitemata Golf Club and loading citizens of Devonport was held on Thursday hist to bid farewell to Dr. W. Grattau Guinne.-y, who was leaving for England. On behalf of the gathering, Mr. It. If. Under presented Dr. Guinness with a case of pipes and a set of razors, Mr. G. Falla, slationmasler at Masterton, is nt present enjoying a holiday in Auckland and will not return until tho' end of the month. In his absence Mr. J. H. Wilson is acting as officer in charge. Mr. ]•!. Gillow, for twenty years in tho servicj of the- Wostport Coa! C-'.mpany (fourteen years as resident engineer), has Revered his connection with the company.
