Way, a neighbouring settler, galloped immediately to tho Katikei Post Office, and telegraphed for Dr. Nelson, of Ohakune, who came through, via Kaurimu, early on Friday morning. ]'or three hours lie attended to the injured man, setting the ribs temporarily in plaster of Paris, and attending to the cuts. Ho had to pause from time to time to allow the patient to recover strength to endure, tho ordeal. By the time it was over eome dozen men had assembled, and, at 9.30 o'clock on Friday morning, they proceeded to carry him by relays to Kees, a distance of some 15 miles. It was seven o'clock in the evening before they got there, tho roads being very bad. The second stase of tho journey was accomplished next day, Mr. Way being dispatched to Itanrinm, with instructions to endeavour to stop the night express, which would carry the patient to the Hamilton Hosnittil.
