HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly nicotine of tho Hutt County Council was held yesterday. There .were present: Messrs. J. AVakeman (chairman), W. Galloway, T. Edwards, ■J. Whiteman, W. J. Howoll, and M. \\. Welch. •-.,.,.
The Inspector of Works reported having visited Epulii Hamlet to inspect the footpaths, which needed improvement, Ho suggested that tho path bo kerbed with concrete, tho weeds cleaned off, and the Biirfaco tarred to prevent further growth. This would cost about ,£l3O, but it would do away with tho annually recurring expense of eleiiring away weeds, A small bridge in Whiteman's Valley needed renewing. Timber had been ordered, and the wock would bo put in hand as soon as convenient. Twenty-four feet of loin, pipes were also needed to roplace another email bridge in tho same locality. The ropoft was approved and adopted. The following tenders were received for the Paremata Hall bu!lding;-J. H. Buckland, ,£135; E. J. Mildenhnll, .£lsl 10s.; G. Sykes, .£175; Parkin Bros., JJ.193 3s. lid.; and A. H. Mildenhull, £W. Mr. Buckland's tonder was accepted. Oiily one tender, that of G. Sykes, .£l4B, was received for the ereotion of a bridge over the Manga'rod Kiver. The tender was accepted. Tho Publio Works Depattmont forwarded u plan of the proposed bridge over tho Ngatiawa River on tho boundary between the Hutt and the Horowlionua counties. The estimated cost is ,£750, of which ,6250 is to bo provided by Government grant. Tho remainder jntist,..be. counties. The member for Wliareroa Kiding and tho Inspector of Works were empowered to confer with tho/engineer for Horowhemin. County as to the proportion to be jjayaMo-by- eadh county.- -.Tho general opinion of the council was that Horowhenua County, which would derive most benefit from the bridge, should bear the larger proportion of tno cost. ■• The Normhttdalo' School Committee were granted permission to fence in t portion of an Unformed road ndjaccnt to the echool. The object of the request was to provide space in the school grounds for a proposed rural' (Miirse, and the portion of the road affected was on top of a high bank, and dsoless for traffic Wednesday was fixed as the wbrking day in the week for the closing of shops in the County for the Weekly half-holiday. It was decided to have- a poll of 'the ratepayers in portions of Horokiwi and Mangaroa Ridbjgs talcen on a proposal to Taise a loan of .£llOO for the construction of a bridge to save tho districts named over-the Hutt River en the road from Upper Hutt to Pahautanui. It was decided also that in the ovent of/the loan being agreed to, the interest be'paid out of general' account. Tho estimated cost of the bridge is £2200, but the Government have voted a pound for pound 6ubBidy up to .£llOO. -
