Dr. Brochard, French Resident at; Wallis Island, replying to the statement mado by Father Chevrevil, procurator of tho Ma'rist. Missions in the South Seas, in defence of tho priests at Wallis Island, who he (Father Chevrevil) asserts have been "libelled by the Resident," reiterates his accusations. I Ho declares that ho is returning to Wallis Island to take certain action which is supported by tho French Government to eud the present state of affairs. Dr. Brochard denies the Mission paper's report that ho held the hand of tho King, and compelled him to sigu a decree tor the expulsion of Father Bazin from tho island.
