RUSHED BERTHAGE.

INCONVENIENCE AT WHARVES. Complaint has been made by Mr. H. N. Nathan (representing W. 11. Uannatyne and Co.) that tho big 'l'yter steamer Star of Canada is likely to bo seriously inconvenienced owing Ip not being allowed tho use of a berth at the King's Wharf long enough to tako in the meat cargo offering here. The position in brief is that tho steamer Somerset, witli passengers, is due here to-morrow, and the only way which the Harbour Board's oflj'jials can see -to.provide hor with suitable accommodation is to order, tho Star of Canada to "move on." So if the' latter vessel' lias to "movo on" to-morrow morning she can only take in-15,000 carcasses instead of the 25,0(10 carcasses awaiting, shipment here, and-both vessels want, the King'sWharf—.the wharf that at one time the shipping companies looked at askance owing to the slow crane-gear with' which it is fitted. A berth at the-' Railway Wharf was offered the Star of Canada, but could not be accepted owing to tho fact, that it is now the recognised coal wharf, and the meat-bags mWht be soiled by tho flying coal-dust.

Mr. Fletcher (chairman of tho hoard) states that tho Star of Canada was not being treated in mi exceptional manner, but the Somerset,, having some 300 passengers, must be given preference v under the circumstances. The position was the result of a rush duo to the holidays and the recent spell of bad weather, If it were onlv a matter of landing nnsseaigcrs and their luggage from the Somerset, accommodation could doubtless he found at the Clyde Quav Wharf, but if the vessel has a quantity of cargo to discharge the "white elephant" could not > u<ed, as there is uo shed accommodation. , /
