———« . TRAGEDY IN A COTTAGE. A MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR. By Telefiraph—Press Association—Gopjriithl Sydney, January 3. Mrs. Perkins and a teu-year-old boy were found shot dead at their home at Casino. The husband of Mrs. Perkins left a loaded gun near the door during a temporary absence. On returning, he found both wife and boy dead. The affair is shrouded in mystery. (Rec. January 3, 'J. 20 p.m.) Sydney, January 3. Investigation bas failed to elucidate tha mystery surrounding (he Ciisino tragedy. The victims are Mrs. Perkins, a young woman, and Bertie Gilmore, her husband's stepbrother. The scene of the tragedy is a small cottage in the outskirts of the town. Perkins, who is a hunter by trade, left home in the afternoon, and on returning.heard two rapid reports. He ran into the house, and found his wife lying on a couch dead, with a four months infant crying on her breast. Sis stepbrother was lying on the.floor, also dead. Distracted with grief, Perkins ran out shouting "My poor wife is dead." A theory, which is difficult to justify, is that the boy was playing with the gun and accidentally (hot the woman. Then, terrified by what he had done, he committed suicide. Two guns were used, and both belonged t) Perkins.
