HIBERNIAN SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of St. Patrick's branch, 95, was hold at St. Patrick's Hall lwt Tuesday evening, there being a largo attendance of members under the presidency of Bro. W. ,1. Feenev, V.i>. The district deputy, Bro. ,t. W. Callaghan, P.P., was also present, whilst apologies for non-attendance were received from Bros, the Bevs. Father C. J. 'Yenning, S.M., and Dean llegnaull, Provincial of the Marist Order. The election of officers for the ensuing -half-year resulted as follow:—President, Bro. .1. ,F. L. Burke; vice-president, Bro. M. Walsh; treasurer, Bro. J. M'Keowen; warden. Bro. j. Sullivan; guardian, Bro. A. Barnes; sick visitors, Bros. Condon and O'Callaghan; auditors. Bros. H. M'Keowen and F. .1. M'Donald; delegates to dispensary. Bra. .1. W. Callaghan; delegates to 'United Friendly Societies' Council, Bro. M. O'Kane; medical attendants, Drs. Cahill, Mackin, M'Kvedy, Clay, Bowerbank, aud Anderson.

The secretary presented the ffuarterly balance-sheet for December f|iiarler, together N with the annual returns, as required by the Covernment ltegistrar of Friendly Societies, under the Act of 1809. He also presented a report for the year just onded, which proved intere>ling. and disclosed to the members the position of the society. From it is extracted a few interesting paragraphs:— The membership of the branch, which is the parent branch of the Wellington district, is 300: the receipts for the vonr totalled .£IOOO, whilst the expenditure came to ,£930, leaving a prolit of .£7O for the year, which was considered satisfactory owing to tho abnormal amount of sickness experienced, and for which no less a sum than Jiitxi was paid. Of (his sum .£OS was paid to members on what is termed the superannuation allowance. During the past lil'twn years no less than «£SOp has been paid out to this class of member, whilst the total sick pay paid out since 1891 came to j;3600. or an average of .£-00 per annum. Tho management and benevolent funds also disclosed satisfactory progress. .The report mentioned the encouragement and approval extended to the society by the Catholic Hierarchy of New Zealand at their last annual conference, and which should further tend to the advancement of the society. In concluding his report, the secretary exhorted members to lake a lively interest in tho affairs of tho society, not to look for what the society can do for them, but what they can do for tho society, thus extending tho field for its beneficence.

There arc now 550 brandies of the soriety was opened at Levin by the district deputy (Bro. J. W. Callaghaii). whilst in contemplation aro branches for Foxlon and Upper Hutl. There aro ndw 550 branch of tho society in the Dominion and Australia, with a membership of 10,000, and with funds totalling .£'265.000. The society is also affiliated with tho Ancient Order of Hibernians the world over, with a membership of 370,000. Tho installation of the newly-elected officers takes place at the next meeting on January 15.
