SEVENTY DEATHS.
THE BERLIN POISONING AFFAIR. By Tcleeraph-Press Association-Oopyrieht Berlin, December 31. • There were 141 victims of the municipal shelter poisoning affair, and of these seventy have died. It is suggested that tho poisoning was duo to copperas on tho cooking vessels. Numerous , cases attributed to other causes. Tho authorities at the shelters have ordered the inmates to destroy spirits obtained from certain distilleries. (Rec. January 2, 0.5 a.m.) Berlin, January 1. A chemist has been arrested for supplying paupers with a,drink composed of two-parts of methylated spirits aud one part of schnapps. Tho antitoxins were used without result. Tho doctors now think tho deaths were duo to alcohol poisoning.
