THREE NEW PEERS.
TITLE OF HONOURABLE FOR NEW ZEALAND JUDGES.

'J'lio New Year honours are announced:— Three new Peers have been created, including Sir Alfred Thomas, Liberal M.P., who has represented Glamorganshire East sinco 1885. Ho is chairman of tho Welsh Liberal Parliamentary party. Ho was knighted in 100'.'. There aro ten now baronetcies, including tho following-.— Sir Sigismund Neumann, the well-known banker. Sir Lucas Ralli, head of. tho firm of Ralli Brothers. Sir Lionel Phillips, M.F. (Unionist), partner of tho firm of Woruher, Beit and Co. Ho was formerly president of the Transvaal Chamber of Mines, and was one, of tho four UWanders condemned to death by Judge Gregorowski, and sub-; sequently released. Thirty-four Knights were created, ineluding:— Sir Joseph Beecham, the pill manufacturer. Sir Rider Haggard, the author. Sir Henry Jones, Professor of Moral Philosophy in tho University of Glasgow. Sir Frederick Wedmore, author and art critic. The new Commanders of the Bath include:— Sir Charles Lucas, K.C.M.G., K.C.8., formerly head of the Dominions Department of the Colonial Office. The new members of tho Victorian Order include:— Mr. Bertram Mackennal, the Australian sculptor. • The title of Honourable has been granted to the Judges of the High Court of Australia and of tho Supremo Courts of Australia, and of the States of New Zea-' land, South Africa, and Newfoundland. Sir James Prcndergast, ex-Chief Justice of New Zealand, has been allowed to bear this title.
