FIRES IN NEW SOUTH WALES
1> HEAVY LOSS AT NARRABRI. ByToleeraph—Pre3s Acsor-isMnii—Copyrtsrhii Sydney, December 29. The fire which destroyed the business portion of Narrabri West spread with great rapidity. Most of tho buildings were built of weatherboards. There was no fire-fighting apparatus available, and the water supply wits poor. Tho residents were compelled to stand practically idle and watch the blaze. The whole of the chief business block was destroyed. Many of tho occupants lost everything but their night attire. A low estimate of damage'done is .£20,000. WOOL-SCOURING WORKS BURNED. Sydney, December 13. At midnight a tiro broke out in iho premises of the Elliott Company, wool scourers, at Botany, and destroyed a wash-house, engine-shod, and wool-loft. A largo quantity of wool was also damaged. The loss is estimated ,at .£15,000, but is covered by insurance.
