HASTINGS ITEMS.
Christmas Eve was celebrated on Saturday night, and was signalised by a heavy downpour of rain, which commenced n't about B.M, and continued until after mid- * night. It will, however, have proved of very grcit benefit to the pastures and crops. Sunday turned out very fine, but, in the evening, moro rain seemed proLable. the unexpected downpour of Christmas Eve commenced after tho crowds, had comiuonced their shopping and hundreds must have • landed home thoroughly, drenched.
