IBy Teleeraph.—SDccial Correspondent.! Palmerston, December 23. The annual meeting of the Manawatu Kifle Association was held last night, Sir. H. Akers (vice-president) in tho chair. The balance-sheet showed an amount to credit of ,CI2. There was a slight loss ou last year's meeting, owing to the entries not coming up to expectations, and the whole of the entry fees.being given in prize-money. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, General Godleyj president, Colonel Chaytor; vice-presidents, LieutenantsColonels Watt, i)rummond, and Hughes, Major Tatum, Captains Ferguson, Welch, Collins, and Barltrop, Messrs. D. Buick and D. H. Guthrie, M.P.'s, H. Akers, K. S. Abraham, J. H.- Hankins, and P. E. Watson; executive, Lieutenant-Colonel I'ringle, Ciptains V. Foote, ■E. l['Nab, C. H. Wiirdea, and W. E. Kells, Lieutenant Willoughby, Colour-Sergeant Perrin, SerKcant Stock, Corporal Ball, Private fjmitli, Eifleinen Kantiell and Newth; eocrelary, E.Q.If.S. Baker; assistant-secre-tary, Sergeant Stock; treasurer, Captain Mounsey. The following programme vras adopted for tho annual meeting, to take place on January 22 and 21):—Linton Match, SOOjds., ten shots, AM 10s.; Oroua Hatch, 600 yd?.. t«n shots, ,217 10s.; Manawiitu Match, 700 yds., ten shots, .£1" 10s.; Benefit Match, 300 yds., ten shots; Consolation, 500 yds., seven shots. Aggregate prize in matches 1, 2. and 3; Ferguson's aggregate prize in Classes 1. 2, and 5; Champion's Teams' Match, 300, 500, and 600 yds, shield and ,810 10s.- in rash prizes. 'A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Secretary Baker for tho splendid work he had done in the past year. At the adjourned meeting of the Palmerston Swimming Club last night tho following additional officers were elected: —President, Mr. W. F>. Bcndall; vicepresidents. Messrs. H. 1 , . Gibbons, D. Buick, M.P., T. Cliilds, K. M'Nab, A. H. T?o2ers. Eov. H. G. Rosehcr, and Dr. O'Brien; treasurer, Mr. W. Devine; captain. Mr. K. Tait; vice-captain, Mr. H. Wcolf. The president, Mr. W. Hunter, presided over the annual meeting of the local Starr-Bowkett Society last night. After discussing affairs, it was decided to adjourn the meeting tilJ about the middle of next month. Beautiful summer weather prevailed today, the first we have had this season. Numbers of the business places havo been decorated with evergreens, and the town is beginning to assume a Christ-mas-like appearance. There were creat crowds of people in town, and good business appeared to be doing in all the shops.
