Martin was an employee of Out firm, and had given Wright orders to obtain the money under the pretence that Ik.- iMarlin) had received sack* from Wright, for the linn. The increase in tliu particular line of business aroused tliu manager's interest, and led to the arrest, Msirtin was only twenty years of aRe, while Wright was thirty-two year? of age. Both were married men, and had hitherto borne Rood characters. His Worship fined the elder licensed X 7, the alternative being six weeks' imprisonment. Martin was fined Jit, with tho option of a month's imprisonment, while both the accused were ordered to refund between them the sum of ,£lO fls Id. On a charge of attempted suicide, Leonard Pearce, who was under the influence of liquor when the offenco was committed, was convicted and ordered to coine up for sentence when called upon, a condition being that he paid i<2 7s. Gd. medical expenses. He was prohibited for one year. John Ludlow Logan, appearing on remand for sentence on a charge of theft of clothing, was further remanded for a week in order that he might be examined by the gaol surgeon as to his mental condition. Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared for the accused. For disorderly behaviour while drunk, Alfred Eohb was fined 205., and for making use of improper language the same accused was fined £1. Default was fixed at 14 days' imprisonment. Alfred Hansen was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, but for procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order in force against him, he was fined £3, in default U days' imprisonment. John Price, who had been found helplessly drunk, and remanded for curative treatment, was convicted and ordered to. pay 17s. Gd. medical expenses. James Cocker, for drunkenness, was fined •205., with the .alternative .of. three days' imprisonment. On a similar charge, Minnie Brown was fined as., the alternative being 2-J bonrs , ' imprisonment. Four firstolTending inebriates were convicted and discharged, and another was remanded until December 30 for curative treatment. CHRISTMAS DAY SITTING. . A sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held yesterday before Mr. Riddell, S.M. For using threatening beuaviour in Willis Street, a young man, named David Jackson, was fined 205., in default to undergo three days' imprisonment. James Skilling wa; convicted and. discharged for drunkenness, but for procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order in force against him, lis was fined 205., the alternative being three days' imprisonment. Michael Kiely, arraigned. on. similar charges, was penalised in like manner.. Henry Taylor, alias l'egtop, who had been found helplessly drunk, was remanded until Monday next for medical treatment. A similar remand was granted in the wise of Eva Mary Vino. Francis Harris, for drunkenness, was fined 55., the alternative being 24 hours' imprisonment. Two iirst-offending inebriates, who did not appear, were ordered to forfeit their bail, 10s. each. Three other first offenders were convicted and discharged. CHARGE OF BURGLARY. ARREST AT'DAYBREAK YESTERDAY. ■ Shortly before daybreak yesterday morning, the nightwatchman on duty in Willis Street was attracted by suspicions sounds emanating from the premises of Rash and Goodor, jewellers, in Mercer Street. Ho brought Constable Sleeth to the spot, and tho latter arrested a man coming away from the shop. As a result of this... Bruno O'Mullor appeared before Mr. W. G. Riddeli; S.M., at !) o'clock .yesterday morning on a charge of breaking and entering the promises and stealim sundry articles of jewellery, value ,£■27. On the.application of. Sub-Inspector Sheehan, accused was remanded until January 2.'
