Peterkin and Cudby, J.P s, judgment by default was given m tho following cases :-Georgo Bradley v. Reginald Bell, £i 15s. 6d„ costs 55.; Hutt Valley Tramway Board, 2s. 9d., costs ss.
The Petone : Fire Board held their quarterly meeting yesterday. Members present were: Messrs.-Mothes (chairman), M'Ewan, Short, and Kempthorne. The Treasury advised having forwarded the annual subsidy of il2.' The Under-Secre-tary of the' Treasury acknowledged receipt of the board's balance-sheet. Mr. A. S. Mitchell acknowledged the conditional acceptance of his design for the new station. Tho brigade secretary asked the board to reconsider its decision in regard_ to the subscription to tho "Firemen's Journal."—lt was resolved to pay half cost. A letter was received from the manager of tho Queensland Insurance .Company, calling attention to a report that, at. last Monday's fire, the Petone brigade were half an hour late in arriving on the scene, and asking for an explanation. The superintendent stated that tho interval from the time at which tho alarm was given till tho brigade reached the fire was about 12 minutes. It was resolved that tho Queensland Insurance Company bo advised accordingly. It was decided to.advise.tho managers of St. David's Church to have the doors of the building opening outwards 'instead of inwards. The superintendent reported having made tho usual inspection of premises containing explosives, and recommended that licenses bo granted.—Agreed to. Some discussion took place in regard to; the town water pressure, the chairman remarking that, at one stage, it was low. Mr. M'Ewan said that he would like it made known that there was always tho upper reservoir and tho Gear Company's supply to fall back upon in case of fire.
