Nominations for tho Wellington Racing Club's meoting closo on Monday night. All arrangements had been inado to ship Silverlyto to Auckland with Goldfinder and Montigo, but tho Gon of Birkenhead struck himself while working, and the trip had to bo abandoned. Mr. W. Montgomery, owner of Hoanga, returned to Auckland last Sunday from a visit to Australia. Hoanga is being spelled in Australia. Goldfiuder has been in Auckland during tho past week, continuing his preparation for the Auckland Cup. Acceptances for the Taratahi-Carterton meeting are duo on Wednesday next. R. J. Mason, with five horses, is arriving from tho south this morning, and will leave for Auckland by the second Main Trunk express. Ilia team will consist of Miss Mischief, Pcirene, Lady Georgia, 'l'aft'eta, and Canute. By yesterday morning's boat the Chokebore team, which is to do for Sir George Clifford at Ellerslie, arrived in Wellington. After resting for a few hours, tho horses were entrained for Auckland. Tho members of tho team were tho three-year-olds Avarice, Counterfeit, and Masterpiece, and the two-year-olds Winning Way and Scottish, Star. Auturanns has been left behind, as he is still feeling the cffects of tho kick which he received at Riccarton last month. Lace Collar (Menschikoff—Castorlace) has been at tho stud for a couple of seasons, but has failed to produce a foal, and, in consequence, her owner, Mr. J. G. Duncan, of tho Waibuiao shid, decided to quit lier. J. 11. Prosser has purchased her and, in a couple of months, she should bo ready to carry the cardinal and amber hoops of tho Porirua ■ mentor. As a hack Lace Collar showed marked sprints ing ability but, after getting into the upper class, she failed to win. Whether the. long spell has improved her or otherwise lias yet to bo determined, but the chances-are that she will have improved. The Stepniak hoTso, Boris, at prtsomt doing duty at the Waikanao 6tud, will, at the conclusion of this • season, bo shipped to Australia and bo Bold. The Porirua team for tho Auckland Cup meeting will oonsist of Doarost, i Gipsy Belle, St. Petersburg, St. Felix, | and Hawick. They are to be railed to Ellorslic on Wednesday next. Acceptances for the first day's events at tho Taranaki Jockey Club's meeting are due on Monday. At Christchurch last ireok Cronstadt (Stepniak—Madder) was sold at auction for 2Gogiis., and Sperm (Stepniak—Armilla) for OOgns. The buyers' names have not been announced, but it is reported that a well-known legal man in Christchurch is the new owner of Cronstadt, who will probably bo trained by Holmes. So far no word has reached tho Porirua slaiblo of tho reported intention of W. Young not to bo present at the Lllerslio meeting and, in consequence, no other rider has yet been engaged to steer the beach horses. Though he is a half-brother to the brilliant Soulline, Maxwell is not by any means a smart sprinter, and, in fact, he takes a long time to get on his feet. One well-known rider from the north entertains the opinion that the position which Maxwell occupies in the betting market for tho Auckland Cup is not justified, and if he is to win the race will havo to be a very slow one for the first mile. This will bo nothing new for the Auckland Cup, which is usually a slowrun race.
