At tho preliminary inquiry on Monday, a jury of four brought, in a verdict that death was due to a gunshot wound, but that there was insufficient , evidence to show.by whom it was inflicted. Tho htisbind is held charged with murder. Native le.-iing is acute, and firm and prompt, fijeasarcfl arc neccssary. The relative.s aro much incensed against tho man. Tho Natives are quoting a previous case, and desire direct British control of the Islands. The fatality is said to havn been the result of drink, jealousy, and moving pictures of the cowboy type. Accidental shooting occurred at Mang.iiii, a boy being killed. At Kaiatea a trial on a mnrder charji is proceeding. There are no details.
