An Engagement, The engagement is announced, says an Australian paper, of Dr. Eva Meredith, late of Waimate, to Dr. W. H. Clements, son of the late Major-General Clements and cousin of the Earl of Leitrim. Miss Meredith, who three months ago took her degree of Doctor of Medicine, has U-en for the past two and a half years resident medical officer at Wycombe Abbey School, and has had a brilliant career as a student. She qualified in Edinburgh three years ago, hold'ng the gold medal in anatomy, second prize in midwifery rnd nicdical jurisprudence, and third in public Health, with 12 first-class and 10 second-class honours. A'Bogquet for Mrs. Hcrdman. At Mr. A. L. Hcrdmaii's meeting in Ivirkcaidio's Tea Rooms last night, Mrs. Hcrdman was' presented with a beautitul bouquet of roses. Mr. Hcrdman thanked the donor for such a beautiful,gift to his wife, and expressed his pleasure at the thcughtfulness which had prompted it. Now a Playwright.

At the close of a very enthusiastic meetaddressed by Dr. Newman at lulbirnio last- evening, Mrs. Nowinan was presented with a very beautiful bouquet as a token "of regard tor herselt and Dr. Newman, accompanied by hearty wishes for the", success of the latter at the poll to-day. •

Miss Murison, of Dunedin, is visiting Wellington, and is staying with her sister, Mrs. Bassingthwaite.
Miss Effie Chalmers, who has been staying with Mrs. L. H. B. Wilson, at Kelburne, for a few days, left yesterday for ICaikoura.
